Gentle Coup

I do believe there’s been a gentle coup. It sure seems like Millie is now the dominant hen. She’s quicker, she’s a little bigger, and she’s not shy about going for corn or cantaloupe or anything else first, but while she’s clearly out front, there’s no rancor in it. Rose was always one to prove her dominance. She’s been known to work over another hen pretty well. Millie is matter-of-fact, asserting herself but not making a big deal out of it. Perhaps it’s respect for Rose’s age. Perhaps it’s confidence and security that she’s Queen of her new home and that the Queen Mum is no real threat, despite that initial blustering, and deserves peace and respect. Nothing but harmony since early on.
